Here's a quick Amp Dyno test of a 1991 Linear Power 8002SW amplifier. This was a unique amplifier in it's time as it is Class AB, monoblock and is optimized for 8 ohm loads. How many car audio amplifiers do you see now days that are optimized for 8 ohms? Not many. Why is this important? Higher ohm load equals less of a strain on the amplifier, thus allowing it to provide superb control of the speaker (damping factor), while minimizing the amount of current needed. When you run your amplifier at low ohm loads, this results in several undesirable factors; 1) more current required 2) less efficiency 3) less control of speaker(s) (lower damping factor) and 4) more distortion.
